I put my drone up over the remnants from the Old Man Fire beside the GallopingGoose Trail (GGT) in Sooke, BC.

I was surprised to see it was a ground fire which saved the tree canopy as can be seen in these pictures.

A subsurface forest fire, also known as a ground fire, occurs when wildfires burn beneath the surface of the earth, often in peatlands or other organic matter. These fires smolder rather than flare up, and can persist for extended periods, even through winter. They can reignite surface fires and pose hazards to humans and animal.

---

This is perhaps the reasoning in keeping the GGT trail closed in this area for such an exptended period.

N.B. The devastion at ground level is immense.

Relive My Ride

Saturday I cycled 31km roundtrip to Michelle's Farm and back home.

This farm market is located at Sayward Rd. junction with the Lochside Trail

---

Before visiting rhe market I put the DJI Mini drone up over markham Rad beside Hwy17

---

Ostensibly the ride was to checkout my bike's phone app connected to my DJI3 Osmo video camera

---

This time with camera mounted on my helmet bracket.

There seems to be some issue with the file format the DJI3 recorded in but we're sorting that now.

N.B. Somehow my DJI3 Osmo got swithedfrom 1080p to 4k recording. Even at $178🇨🇦 dollars, Pinnacle Studio 26 WILL NOT process 4k files. Byer beware! Thei r blab said it would handle 4k.

Friday morning I cycled the Lochside Trail 15km out to Michelle's Field and back (30km roundrip)

Across the road the industrial site manager gave me permission to launch my DJImini2 drone

---

While keeping the drone over the industrial site, the 4X zoom lens gave some good views of the Keating Overpass construction site.

It was a beautiful morning for a bike ride with 20°C (68°F) temps and little wind.

---

One always has a wind while cycling at 25km/hr.

---

The whole outing only took less than two hours.
