Oscar's Fool's Gold

Fool's Gold: If the Hollywood 'elites' spent more time minding their own business instead of constantly trying to out-trump each other bashing the president of the United States, they wouldn't have made the most colossal blunder in the 89 year history of the Oscar Awards' Ceremony.

From Redditt regarding Oscar night tweets:
I am George W. Bush. I spent eight years bombing Muslims. I then sat silent as Barack Obama spent another eight years bombing Muslims. Because I'm butthurt that Trump destroyed my family dynasty, I broke my silence to criticize Trump for daring to vet Muslim immigrants.

So far, Jimmy Kimmel mocks Trump, Viola Davis thinks acting is the most honorable profession and an Iranian lectured America on human rights. Sounds like a typical Hollywood gathering.

Dinesh D'Souza: Kellyanne Conway put her her feet on the couch. Monica Lewinsky spent time under the Oval Office desk. Guess which one the media is outraged about?

Times Colonist on Polar Bear Populations

"Always cite your references." is what Jack was telling us at coffee break.
So, here's one reference to the following facts about Arctic polar bears:
Cool It by Bjorn Lomborg pp. 4-6

Times Colonist Article

It reads as follows: "Polar bears would stand a greater chance of avoiding extinction if people stopped shooting them than if they reduced greenhouse gas emissions, according to a book by a leading environmental skeptic.

Bjogrn Lombor, the Danish professor who achieved international fame with his previous book, The Skeptical Environmentalist, examines and rejects claims by environmentalists and the former president Al Gore that polar bears are drowning because the sea ice they hunt on is melting.

Lomborg says the story about drowning bears is taken from a single sighting of four dead bears the day after an abrupt windstorm.

The bears came from a population that was actually increasing, which has been the overall trend in the polar bear population since the 1960s.
He provides evidence that 11 out of 13 distinct populations of polar bears in Canada are either stable or increasing in number.

In his new book, Cool It: the Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming, Lomborg quotes a Canadian government biologist who said: "They are not going extinct or even appear to be affected at present." -- end of article.

Facts stated by Lomborg are based upon scientific research and not Al Gore's hyperbole. Deniers of anthropogenic climate change (us) have known these facts for years. As with all known, scientific geological and atmospheric research, these facts can be proven by intense study and then recorded in journals and scientific papers. By referencing such scientific records, we learn that Earth was formed 4.543 billion years ago (bya) and has had a modern atmosphere since 2.3bya. The modern mix was finalized with the addition of oxygen. We also learn that Earth's climate has always changed and will continue to change.

This brings us to the February 26, 2017 Times Colonist (TC) article on p.C3 titled: "Polar Bears Defy Scientists’ Forecasts" by Bob Weber

The Times Colonist report on p.C3 concludes with the following:
"The report was commissioned in part to provide recommendations to wildlife managers on appropriate hunting quotas. However, its authors declined to offer advice on how many bears can be sustainably harvested [Eds Note: killed]. The authors, an international group of polar bear experts, say they weren’t given enough information on management objectives for the bears, commitments on the frequency of future monitoring, or how much risk managers are willing to assume."

This statement: " . . . say they weren’t given enough information," is quite telling regarding these 'researchers' qualifications to publish.

Given information by whom?

 Al Gore?

Most people believe 'scientists' gathered and published facts derived from their own research.

There are 'real scientists' out here doing just that. And those of us denying anthropogenic (if you do not know what anthropogenic means you have our permission to leave this conversation now) climate change, have relied upon scientific research.

Swedish scientist, Bert Bolin is credited with initiating the idea climate change is related to Co2 in the atmosphere. It was at the height of the cooling scare in the 1970s, Swedish scientist, Bert Bolin suggested man-made (anthropogenic) carbon dioxide Co2, may help to warm the planet.

So there you have it.

This TC article is a way, in my opinion, of saying that climate-cultists don't know squat about what is happening with polar bear populations, never did know, but now they are admitting they didn't know and still don't know.

N.B. The best way to save polar bear populations is to get 'game' hunters to stop killing them.
It certainly isn't a 'game' for the polar bears.

Cordova Bay Rd loop through McMinn Park

Sunnymead Way trail connector (in McMinn Park) at Galey Brook Bridge
This morning I walked 3333m (45min) from Cordova Bay Rd. northwest bound up through McMinn Park. I wanted to check out the route through this residential area as it relates to linking Cordova Bay beach access to Boulderwood Park.

Mission was accomplished after emerging onto the Lochside Trail and finding Boulderwood Park trailhead directly across that pathway at Seapearl Plc. From here my route followed Lochside Drv southward to pick up the Kentwood Park trailhead (at Scottswood Ln.) and follow it westward to Amblewood Dr.

Amblewood joins Royal Oak Dr. where today's route turned left at Firbank Ln which has another connector path through to Crofton Terrace. Crofton Ter. was the first road we connected with to start this walk; thus, bringing us full-circle back to our limo after a 3.3km loop.

This was the abbreviated version of the route I wanted to cover but having made a previous engagement for 9:30a.m., this was the only option.

As noted, the mission was accomplished.

Cordova Bay Beach to Broadmead over Boulderwood Park

Cordova Bay to Broadmead Village
This morning I walked 8km roundtrip from Cordova Bay over a mountain to Broadmead Village and back.

I walked Royal Oak Drive back to the Lochside Trail then through the residential streets back to Timber Ln and my limo.

Total walking time, according to my ViewRanger app, was 2½ hrs.

Walked Falaise Wilderness Trail

Wilderness Trail Joins Royal Oak Cemetery

This morning I walked 3km from Broadmead Village Shopping Centre to the top of the highest hill in Royal Oak Burial Park (ROBP).

What a beautiful morning to be out and about. After having coffee with the guys for an hour-and-a-half, it was time to hit the trail.

Bernice was busy this morning so could not join me. We've been to ROBP on numerous occasions for various events so are quite familiar with its layout and grounds. This walk, however, was the first time hitting the high ground. Quite a spectacular piece of property, actually.

Before leaving Broadmead Village, I picked up a couple of enchiladas-to-go at MexiGo for our lunch at home.

In his new book, Ezra Levant, the best-selling author of Ethical Oil and other trouble-making books, is here to say what no-one in the liberal media will: Trudeau vs. Trump is shaping up to be Bambi vs. Godzilla.

And yet, as political leaders, CEOs and top bankers make their annual trek up the Swiss Alps to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the mood is anything but celebratory.

Beneath the veneer of optimism over the economic outlook lurks acute anxiety about an increasingly toxic political climate and a deep sense of uncertainty surrounding the U.S. presidency of Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on the final day of the forum. But the Post’s early reporting on the “firing” of General Schwartz contains no statements from the Trump transition office and also leaves out key points such as the fact that the general of the D.C. National Guard traditionally supplies his letter of resignation to every new president who is about to take office.

Subsequent to the publishing of the paper’s story making Trump appear incompetent, news emerged that the incoming Trump administration offered to let General Schwartz keep his position through inauguration day, but it was the general himself who refused the offer, preferring instead to quit at 12 noon on January 20, the hour Trump takes his oath of office

Upate January to February 2017

Wardroom Burns Supper

Well, lots has happened since our last, blog post. Saturday, January 28, we attended the Burns Supper at Naden Wardroom with Irene and her friend, Betty. Lynne Griffith's Dancers entertained with her son, Cole, piping. Cole is a world-champion piper and is one of Victoria's most-sought-after hosts for Burns' Events throughout the city. He does an excellent Address To A Haggis recitation.

Sunday, January 29, grandson, Liam, took time from his busy schedule (he's in third-year, UVic university business school) to have lunch with us at Broadmead Village. MexiGo Restaurant serves Victoria's best Mexican food and this was borne out due to the fact the place was packed and we couldn't even get in the door. Not to worry, Romeo's next door has great food and still accepts cash. Liam was celebrating his 21st birthday and we were honoured to be a part of it.

Sister, Chris phoned and said her and Joel were going to start playing house. Goodonya, kids.

Thursday, January 31, we had lunch at Oaks Restaurant in Oak Bay. It's at the former, Blethering Place, location. We talked with the manager of Oaks Restaurant & Tea Room regarding the bands she hires. They have live music every Friday night and Ditza Hopkins (female) said they are interested in hearing new musicians but have a waiting list. I gave her The Push bizcard with the name and contacts and told her about Don & Kelly's Fast Forward duo. She was interested enough to take The Push bizcard and gave me hers with her handwritten name on the back.

We visited Elaine at Oak Bay lodge. She's doing well.

Doing lots of flying in South Africa because Liam is planning a business venture there as a volunteer in Zambia. Villages surrounding Livingstone are the centre of his business associates' interests and their efforts will be directed to improving drinking water access and its quality. If all goes according to plan, he and his team will depart May 2017.

Thursday, February 2, Dr. Stephen Baker performed on me a bilateral iridotomy at Jubilee Hospital, Clinic #5. Dr. Baker is an eye-guy. The procedures went smoothly enough with no discomfort but afterwards -- once the freezing wore off -- both eyes felt like they had been burned out with a laser. Come to think of it, that's what an iridotomy is.

Saturday, February 4th, we were back at the legion after a three-week hiatus. Yesterday's Wine had a few new songs which means they still like to keep it fresh for their dancing and listening audience. We enjoyed listening to various jammers including, Evan Ehgoetz on pedal steel guitar. Bill & Lena couldn't make it but Don & Marg did. Eight of us went for supper at Apple Tree.

From Tom's FB Page
It's time for some thank yous to everyone who made yesterday so much fun at the Esquimalt Legion. First and foremost, the guys and gal in the band: Doc, Clayton, Randy, Don and Glenda! Next, all the jammers who came to share their amazing talents with everyone: drummer tony, guitar players Rob Jeffrey and Steve from Maryland, singers Sharon Mae, Marc Bird, and Joel Kaiser, and Especially all the way from Powell River Mr Evan Ehgoetz on pedal steel! And of course the friends and fans that come from near and far. You and the Esquimalt Legion are the ones that make it possible! My special thanks to Kamillia Klimek for her untiring work recording some of the moments so we can share them. if I left anyone out, my sincere apologies. I am trusting my memory!

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
G.O.A.T. is how the Greatest Game Of All Time is expressed in writing! And guess what? Lady Gaga shut up and sang! It was reported she was going to ruin her whole performance by making political statements (with accompanying, rude gestures) but it turns out The Lady is smarter than that. Good for her. Nothing wrong with being and acting smart. I do it all the time.

The Left, however, was and is eerily silent regarding the fact that it was Donald Trump's friends who own and play for the New England Patriots NFL team. Just imagine if the NEP had lost what a deal the Fake News and Losers would have spun it as a testament to - once again -- Trump's poor choices and judgement. It didn't happen. Amen to that.

If Robbie Burns played guitar he'd do it like this. by PixxyLixxx
