Hiked Mt. Tolmie Loop 3800metres

Mt. Tolmie Quadtych Friday morning I walked our 3800m (2¾miles) loop over Mt. Tolmie and back thru Finnerty Gardens.
On my way up The Grind> I took a picture of the ongoing, house construction.
Once over the mountain it was down to Rattenbury to Henderson Rd.

Walked 3800m Clockwise Route

Seeing Purple I hiked a 3800m loop, clockwise through University of Victoria and over Mt. Tolmie.
It was a beaautiful, sunny morning at a balmy 10°C (50°F).
I stuck to the designated pathways for the most part.
I'm a little shaky but didn't fall down.
My left leg rectus femoris has experienced a numbness since my illness. The leg control is still functional but limited by the numbness on the muscle's surface.
It's almost like the symptoms from a stroke.
The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles that sits in the middle of the front of the thigh. The rectus femoris attaches from the pelvis to just below the knee (on the patellar tendon). It is responsible for knee extension and hip flexion.

Walked 3800m Loop up The Grind

Glastonbury Sunday morning I walked a 3800 loop up The Grind and back home thru Finnerty Gardens
A beautiful, sunny morning at a balmy 9°C (48°F).
No wind As I recall, this is the first day this year with no wind. Sailors hate it.
On the way up Glastonbury hill (aka The Grind) I walked in and took a pic of the construction progress.

After peaking the mountain, it was back down into Finnerty Gardens. Miss Josephine Firth is the name of one of the largest, flowering rhododendrons in British Columbia.
For some reason, it's blooming early this year.
There wereonly two bunches of blooms open on this day.

Easter Sunday I walked a 3800m loop over Mt. Tolmie

View From the Top Easter Sunday I walked a 3800m loop over Mt. Tolmie and thru the University of Victoria back home
I put the DJImini 2 up from the mountain side and looked at the construction on Glastonbury Rd.
This walk gets more enervating each time I walk it.
Maybe my mountain climbing days are over.
Anyway, it certainly is wonderful weather for outdoor activities at 13°C (55°F).
Jesus Christ is risen! Amen.

Walked 3km Mt. Tolmie Loop

Cycledude's Newest Cycle N.B. Today's 2009 image is of the younger, 72 year old Bill who has enjoyed an active life in good health — and still at it!

Tuesday morning I walked a 3km loop over Mt. Tolmie.

My slower pace going up The Grind gave me a heart-rate of 110bpm
Going up Glastonbury, there was a large flatbed truck parked in the construction site driveway.
I know what you're thinking: who cares? Right.
The photo does prove I was there, on what date and time.
I came back down Glstonbury to shorten my enervating walk.

Walked 3800m CCW Tolmie/UVic (Finnerty) Route

Envo Flex Trike Tuesday I walked up The Grind and over Mt. Tolmie on my 3800m loop.
The Grind for the uniitiated is Glastonbury Rd. hill.
Anyone who who thinks it's NOT a grind has never walked up it without stopping.
I do this steep walk to keep in line with my cardiologist's admonition to: “Get out twice a week and get your heartbeat up to 120bpm for twenty minutes.”
But not everyone does what their doctor tells them.
It's a real privilege to have this cardio walk right in our backyard — 80m to the trailhead.
Today's photo was taken in Finnerty Gardens.

Hiked 3800m Loop thru UVic and over Mt. Tolmie

View From the Top I hiked a 3800m loop, clockwise through University of Victoria and over Mt. Tolmie.
It was a beaautiful, sunny morning at a balmy 8°C (46°F).
This was my first walk without a walking stick since leaving hospital two months ago.
I'm a little shaky but didn't fall down.
My left leg rectus femoris has experienced a numbness since my illness. The leg control is still functional but limited by the numbness on the muscle's surface.
It's almost like the symptoms from a stroke.

2200m Loop Hike over Mt. Tolmie

Glacial Erratic — Not! Hiked 2200m loop up Kingsberry trail and over Mt. Tolmie
With the wife's ill health I didn't want her left alone too long so my 3800m loop has been shortened.
The property under construction at 1765 Glastonbury is proceeding as it should.
We ahve pictures-to-prove-it.
I saw what was thought to be a glacial erratic until a drill hole was dicovered it.
Either way it presents an anomoly due to its location.

3800m Loop Hike over Mt. Tolmie/UVic hike

3800m Loop Walk thru Finnerty Gardens Saturday morning I walked our 3800m, clockwise, route over Mt. Tolmie and University of Victoria grounds.
It was a beautiful, sunny morning with a stiff wind.
Anyone dressed for the weather could only enjoy it!
All the local paths I walk are muddy. Many even have ankle-deep, standing water on them.
Don't believe everything reported regarding the weather: There's no drought conditions where I walk (off pavement) and this is the coldest (not warmer) late-February and March temperatures I've experienced in Victoria over the past 87 years here.

Up The Northwest Col of Mt. Tolmie

Glastonbury Quadtych Tuesday morning I walked a 3km loop over Mt. Tolmie and back down Glastonbury hill.
The northwest col trail system was the chosen route and put me in behind the construction site which was previously photographed from the roadway.
The new driveway was so wide it looked like it was for a new road.
Not so. Seems they're only building one house — for now.
This was my first time I hiked over the mountain since getting out of the hospital last month.
Maybe I'll keep an eye on this site and put the drone up to get a better look.

Up The Grind

Up The Grind Saturday morning I walked a 2km loop up The Grind (Glastonbury Rd. hill) and back through Nancy Hanks St./Horner Park.
This is the first time up The Grind since getting out of hospital after a two-week incarceration.
The weather was overcast with slight breeze so perfect for outdoor activities
There was new construction taking place off Glastenbury so that's the only pic I got.

Walked 3km Loop over Mt. Tolmie

Thursday morning I walked a 3km loop over Mt. Tolmie.
Starting out by going up The Grind on Glastonbury I came down the sttep hills at Gordon Head Rd.
It wasgetting pretty warmat 10:15 so headed back to the ranch
Regent Tours had a bus load of tourist up the mountain
Presumably, from the two crusieships docked at Ogeden Point near downtown Victoria visible from atop the mountain.
The tour buses go up Mount Tolmie for the panoramic views of Southern Vancouver Island, the Olympic Mountains and the gulf Islands. Come to think of it — that's why I hike up there (and have done since 1946 at age 9yrs).

Walked a 3800m loop over Mt. Tolmie starting from Kingsberry Crescent

Thursday morning I walked a 3800m loop over Mt. Tolmie starting from Kingsberry Crescent Trailhead.
After nearly getting T-boned by two running deer, I made it to the top and down Rattenbury Pl.
Two bucks were feed a few metres from the trail as I passed and seemed completely unconcerned regarding my presence.
The big field beside Gordon Head Rd. and on University of Victoria lands has had the tall grass cut.
The loop took me an hour-and-a-half (1½) with all the stops I made clearing the trails of overhanging branches and vines.
Just another glorious day in paradise.

4km Loop Walk over Mt. Tolmie

As Seen on my 4km Walk I left at 7:30am for my 4km walking loop starting by hiking over Mt. Tolmie
Having my hand-clippers with me found me clearing small branches and blackberry bushes from single track trails.
The latter activity added another 30-minutes to my otherwise 1:15:00 outing.
It was a wonderful walk on a wonderful morning

Inbound it was Hobbs School to Arbutus Rd. then thru Haro Woods Park to UVic
Thru UVic to Varsity and home via Horner Park
My afternoon walk took me up the NW Col of Mt. Tolmie
The camas is in full bloom and the oak leaves are out.

3800m Mt. Tolmie Loop North Col

Henderson Park chiptrail Tuesday morning I hiked up the North Col of Mt. Tolmie.
Over the mountain and down the other side to Rattenbury connector and Redwood to Henderson Park
The golf course is open but no golfers were seen
Across Cedar Hill Rd and through the University of Victoria (UVic) along the Alumni Trail system to Gordon Head Rd.
Once through Varsity and down Broadmead it was through Horner Park to Palo Alto
This, basically is our 3800 metre loop walk
I do this steep hike and walk to keep in line with my cardiologist's admonition to: “Get out twice a week and get your heartrate up to 120bpm for twenty minutes.”

Walked up The Grind on our 3800m Loop

There's Snow in Them-thar Hills Wednesday I walked up The Grind and over Mt. Tolmie on our 3800m loop.
The Grind for the uninitiated is Glastonbury Rd. hill.
Anyone who thinks it's NOT a grind has never walked up it without stopping.
I do this steep walk to keep in line with my cardiologist's admonition to: “Get out twice a week and get your heartbeat up to 120bpm for twenty minutes.”

Hiked North Column of Mt. Tolmie

Chainsaw Massacre Sunday, Cinco de Marco, I hiked the North Column (N.Col) of Mt. Tolmie from Kingsberry Crescent trailhead.
So much hacking and whacking was done it took (1:50:00) one hour fifty minutes to complete the 2½ mile (3800m) journey.
It's sure dry this year.
No standing water nor mud was encountered anywhere along the route including the Alumni Trail, dirt sections.
The understory and trees are starting to bud.
It's getting warmer.

Hiked the Northwest Column of Mt. Tolmie

Finnerty Garden's Crocuses Monday morning I hiked up the Northwest Column (col) of Mt. Tolmie from Kingsberry Crescent trailhead.
Previously, I considered the NW Col too wet and too dangerous at this time of year but after hiking up the Irvine Trail last week it seemed a prudent choice.
It went well and here I am alive to tell the tale.
Vancouver Island is in drought conditions due to a lack of rainfall.

Hiked Over Mt. Tolmie on our 3800m Loop

Cold January Hike Tuesday I walked 3800m over Mt. Tolmie to Henderson Alumni Trails and back through Finnerty Gardens
Went up the Kingberry Trail
The Joan & Keith Rowland Memorial Table marks the top end of the trail connector with Kingberry Crescent.
I came back through Horner Park
My fingers got cold.
