Christmas Day Dinner 2017

We enjoyed a wonderful family gathering at Ryan and Krist's beautiful home.
They and family members prepared the perfect dinner for 28 family members -- all seated at the same table (sort-of).
The eldest family member was 81 years and the youngest 4 months so young and old had a marvelous Christmas Day together.

Christmas Eve Dinner 2017

Thank you SharBen for yet another Christmas Eve Family Gatheriing and delicious dinner.
According to my records, Bentley & Sharon have invited us for Christmas Eve dinner these past twelve (12) years (since they moved to Victoria in 2005).
It was great to have all the children -- young adults actually -- ranging from 19 to 22 years.
Liam will be off again to Europe come January 1st 2018. Bon voyage, my son (grandson actually).
His siblings will remain here making lots of money from their jobs.

Amos at Tod Inlet (reposted August 14 2019)
Sunday my grandson and I walked 3600m in Tod Inlet Park.
Technically, it's Gowland Tod Park but either way it's where the ancient, limestone quarry was built Attracted to Tod Inlet by limestone deposits vital for cement production, the Butcharts built a factory and family home. Robert Pim Butchart, a pioneer in the thriving North American cement industry, was attracted from Owen Sound, Ontario to Canada’s West Coast by rich limestone deposits. In 1904, he developed a quarry and built a cement plant at Tod Inlet (on Vancouver Island) to satisfy Portland cement demand from San Francisco to Victoria. Jennie Butchart became the company’s chemist. Close to the quarry, the Butcharts established the family home complete with sweetpeas and rose bushes.
As Mr. Butchart exhausted limestone deposits, his enterprising wife Jennie, made plans to create something of beauty in the gigantic exhausted pit. From farmland nearby, she had tonnes of top soil brought in by horse and cart and used it to line the floor of the abandoned quarry. Little by little, the quarry blossomed into the spectacular Sunken Garden. In 1909, when the limestone quarry was exhausted, Jennie set about turning it into the Sunken Garden, which was completed in 1921.

Da Bus and Walk Over Mount Tolmie
You know you're having a slow day when all you can think of to do is take a bus ride.
That's what happened Monday after hopping the bus outside our door at 11:30a.m. and heading for the big smoke (downtown)
The last time we were out on the bus was May 29, 2016 in Vancouver BC going to Grouse Mountain
Monday's outing got us as far out-of-town as Victoria General Hospital but his was not part of the plan. The plan was to get a Ubike from town and go for a ride but that didn't happen
Only one out of five (20%) of Ubicycles have helmets attached to them and I don't carry a spare cycling helmet around with me. No helmet -- no cycling . . . it's the law.
I had lunch of Char Siu Pork at Loy Sing Company 554 Fisgard St in Chinatown On the way home from the UVic bus stop I walked over Mt. Tolmie
