Cycled U-Bicycle with Merino Wool Multi Tube headgear

The Limelight Friday morning I took the u-bike which I parked outside at Ceder Hill Cross Road for a ride.

I cycled 8.6km on the ubike from home to Henderson via Horner Park and Haro Road to Henderson Rec Centre.

I cycled back thru cleared, Cedar Hill Cross Rd. trail to newly, designated, ubike station at Shelbourne Village Square.

It was a balmy 9°C so extra layers were stripped off in a timely manner once arriving at UVic.

I wore the new Merino Wool Multi Tube headgear and with the sharp wind blowing it was a good idea.

Cycled Ubike thru UVic to Cadboro Bay then Home 9km

Friday morning we walked to the market and on the way we passed a U-bicycle parked beside Pear Street.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, after we got home I walked down again and took it for a ride. It had a helmet which was left upside-down in carrier so I used my own due to the overnight rainfall.

The u-bike app always seems to act up with varying messages stating there's no connection to this that or the other network but it always seems to eventually release the lock and make itself available.

I cycled up Midgard and crossed into the University of Victoria (UVic) ground then rode on to House #4 and the pathway down to Haro road. It's downhill all the way from UVic to Cadboro Bay.

After taking the obligatory photo of the bike at Gyro Park, I returned home via the same route. The Ubike App recorded a 9km ride but only charged me a dollar for the 101-minutes usage. Cool.

Cycled Ubike to UVic Henderson and Home

Sunday morning I lit out in the hood looking for a Ubike to ride

There was one with helmet sitting beside Tim Horton's in Shelbourne Square

Rode it up through Finnerty, Henderson and back down Broadmead thru Horner Park to home

Was gone about 45-minutes ($2.10)

I would ride these more often but they are pretty scarce in this neck of the woods

P.S. Richard Atwell lost his job as Saanich mayor in last night's election count. Too bad.

Cycled Ubike on Reconnaissance Run

Dungeness River Railroad Bridge Park Washington This morning I rode the bus to town doing a reconnaissance run for my planned trip to cycle the Olympic Discovery Trail from Port Angeles (PA) eastward to Rail Bridge Park over the Dungeness River.

We visited Rail Bridge Park over the Dungeness River with American friends in 2011. It's an interesting icon from former railway times and makes a nice destination for a 16 mile, outbound, bicycle ride. The roundtrip from PA to the park will be 52km.

The plan is to rent an E-bike from Sound Bikes & Kayaks Sporting Goods Store, 120 E Front St. in PA and be back in time to catch the 5:20 p.m. ferry back to Victoria. We'll let you know how that works out.

The #14 local bus gets one to Yates & Douglas in fifteen minutes. It's another 18 minutes to walk to the Belville St. terminal. The feryy rides take 90 minutes to PA.

This morning I rode a Ubike back to Yates St. which took 7 minutes. I did not see even one ubike on my walk to the Black Ball Terminal. I walked from Hillside Ave. to home after getting off the #4 bus.

We pulled it off! Here's the The Olympic Discovery Trail from Port Angeles VIDEO

U-bicycle, Henderson, Alumni then Barb's

Barb's One Piece I rented a U-bicycle in the hood and rode 46 minutes up and around UVic

Later, we walked Henderson chiptrail and Alumni trails together.

Afterward, we drove to Fisherman's Wharf and had fish&chips at Barb's. They serve the best.

Ubike from Selkirk Landing to Switch Bridge

Found!
Wednesday morning I drove to Uptown to find a U-bike.

Ubicycle's phone app showed a bicycle near Napier Lane in Cecilia Park where there is no bike. It also showed a bike near Crease Avenue near the Switch Bridge Station on the Galloping Goose Trail and there to is no bicycle there either.

My next stop was Selkirk Waters' business district where I did find this one. It had no helmet. I used my own helmet.

I cycled 4600m roundtrip along the Galloping Goose Trail out to the Switch Bridge on a somewhat circuitous route.

Very nice ride and most pleasant weather.

My First U-bibcycle Ride in Victoria BC

Tuesday I rode for the first time one of Victoria's u-bicycle. It was cool.

There's a few vagaries to work out before the entire experience can be considered a success but it seems one complete ride is sufficient to cover them all.

Firstly, one needs money in their Ubicycle WALLET. The 'wallet' is where one deposits money -- it can be done using the app -- BEFORE the app will unlock the bike.

The next significant item in completing the transaction is to lock the bike once its use is no longer required.

LOCK-OUT IS DONE MANUALLY by placing one's thumb on the actuator and physically pushing the lock through the spokes. Remember: it's a good idea to secure the helmet by engaging its strap within the locking mechanism.

Pandora Avenue VIDEO 6-minutes and quite boring . . .

I couldn't resist posting this one. It was published in the Victoria Times Colonist daily newspaper on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

After cycling these lanes end-to-end and back, I wholeheartedly concur with Miles' proposal.

Let Pogo sticks use bike lanes, too
Re: “Scooters, wheelchairs may get run of bike lanes,” October 17, 2017
Why stop at scooters and wheelchairs in the bike lanes?
Pogo sticks and stilts should be next, and walkers with racing wheels would allow more seniors to get out and about.
With the winter rains upon us, row boats might be a good fit, and, heaven forbid, should the winter of 1996 return, skis, toboggans and dog sleds could be added, as well.
