Selkirk Trestle Closures

Selkirk Trestle signage quadtych The Capital Regional District (CRD) has posted signs at Selkirk Trestle.
There are no visible indications of any trestle repairs but there is equipment on site.
Some report the CRD is quick to close the Galloping Goose Trail (GGT) but slow to reopen it.
The CRD still has the GGT closed beyond Sooke Potholes Campground some eight-months (8mon.) after the Old Man fire was extinguished.
Perhaps the access to Kapoor Regional Park will remain closed permanently.
We'll let you know if the GGT beyond the 56km Marker ever reopens.

Cycle 18km Loop

Budge Car Rental Wednesday morning I cycled an 18km loop Henderson/Foul Bay (University/Downtown Cycling Route) outbound and the Galloping Goose Trail/ Lochside Trail inbound to home.
The impetous for this outing was to pay-by-cheque our monthly homecare bill.
Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) is one-of-two homecare services we have under contract to care for my wife
Also, I wanted to stop in at Budget Car Rentals to check on units with 2" trailer hitches — they have several models.
Right now, our cycling plans for this Saturday to Nanaimo are up-in-air.
BTW, it's still colder than Hades out there while cycling at 26km/hr.

Liam & Candace's Rehearsal

Friday I cycled my iZip 38km roundtrip along the Galloping Goose Trail to Sooke and back to Luxton Fairgrounds.
The whole fam damily was at 5209 Hwy14 where our grandson's wedding will be held tomorrow.
Everyone was busy setting up for the outdoor nuptuals so I just watched and took pix and put my DJImini2 drone up.

54km Cycling Loop with Amos

Sunday's 54km Bike Ride

Sunday our grandson (24yrs) cycled with me on a long, loop bike ride from hi home near Cook Village.

I cycled 13km from home to his place then we rode a 26km loop out to Atkins Station in View Royal.
From there I rode another 15km along the Victoria Seaside Route to home through the Uplands District.

43km Loop GGT to E&N Rail Trail + downtown

E&N Rail Trail Sign by Drydock E&N Rail Trail Biking Kimta Railyards 3-minutes #507 Monday morning I cycled a 43km loop from home starting by joining the Galloping Goose Trail at McKenzie Avenue.
After riding The Goose to downtown Victoria BC it was up Fort St. to the Vancouver Street Bike Lane to Beacon Hill Park.
Once through the park it was along Dallas Rd., past the cruiseship terminal to downtown again and over the Johnson Street Bridge.
Using the Esquimalt Rd. overpass we were northwest bound on the E&N Rail Trail to Atkins Station in View Royal.
That's another 13km back home so on a beautiful morning there's nowhere else to be.
I video recorded the E&N railway, single-track section by Kimta Rd. with my GoPro and posted the 3-minute video.

Cycle 18.4km Roundtrip Ride

This morning I took a quick ride over to our accountant's office on Gorge Rd.E
“Quick” because I allowed 30 minutes for ride that took 32 minutes and left 8 minutes late. Do the math.
The ride was as cold as anticipated at 5°C.
Upon my return at 1p.m. I reported the broken door locks to Ding in the office.

Cycled 17km Roundtrip to Kennedy Flat

Galloping Goose Trail Kapoor Station Saturday morning I drove 46km to Sooke Potholes.
From there I cycled 17km roundtrip up to Leechtown and back.
The Deep Pool at the confluence of the Leech and Sooke Rivers is accessible due to the receding water levels.
The old, logging winch is still there beside Kapoor Station.
It was a great ride on a great day. Amen.
Kapoor Station was completely covered in frost upon my arrival but burned off in the day's sunshine.

Cycling the Galloping Goose Trail in the Snow

End off the Line (4300m from Potholes)Not the end of the trail nor the proposed destination but due to icy, frozen snow on the trail.
Cycling in snow is one thing but cycling along a narrow strip of pavement with frozen edges is something else.
N.B. Make that: frozen, icy snow. This location is 4300m from parking Lot#2.
The tire tracks were made by CRD vehicles with staff attending to Kapoor Station facilities or accessing the Victoria Water District's southern gate.

Cycled 26km Roundtrip to Leechtown

Sooke River at Leechtown Thursday I cycled 26km roundtrip along the Galloping Goose Trail from The Trailer Park parking lot on Sooke Lake Road up to the Deep Pool at the site of the original Leech Town townsite.
The reconstruction of Todd Creek Trestle was completed over a year ago on October 2020 so I started this day's ride at the Trailer Park parking lot along Sooke River Road.
Thursday boasted a welcome relief in the torrential downpours British Columbia has experienced since November 12, 2021.
Under overcast and sometimes-sunny skies I cycled my pedelec up to the Deep Pool and back..
There was lots of trail-users out this day and many were parked in the Upper #2 parking lot at Sooke Potholes — a good indicator the road in is not flooded.
Kennedy Flat is so overloaded with flotsam and flood waters one could not even get a view of its overall condition. Next time the drone will be put up to see what is left of it. Before leaving the flooded area of Kennedy Flat, I cleared a bit of the trail leading to the river across from the Grizzly.
Sooke Lake is reporting 100% capacity so presumably large quantities of water have been released down the Sooke/Deception Reservoir outflow.

Cycle 53km Loop E&N out GGT in

Newly paved E&N Rail Trail Westwind Connector Saturday morning I cycled 53km loop outbound along E&N Rail Trail and inbound along Galloping Goose Trail. A wonderful three-hour adventure starting at 7:30a.m. under overcast skies.

Started from home and cycled Lochside Trail/Galloping Goose Trail, 10km to E&N Rail Trail overpass at Esquimalt Rd (Johnson Street Bridge).

HIGHLIGHT The new, one-kilometre trail section between Atkins Rd and Savory School is now paved.
Then another 14km to trail's end at Jacklin Road in Langford. Across Jacklin is Dunford Ave. and down the hill along Henry Eng Plc. This industrial route connects to Fieldview Terrace which is a name-change along Leigh Road.
Once northwest bound along Langford Parkway, its down the dedicated cycling route beside Westhills Drive, past the YMCA and up to the end of the parking lot.
Caveat to above: My first-choice-of-route would be the Ed Nixon Trail beside Langford Lake but it's blocked off at the S.E., wooden boardwalk. Who knows when that will be open; no one is working on it.
There is a single-track connection from here to West Shore Parkway where the E&N Railway crosses. There are various routes through to Humpback Rd. but I chose the Upper Trail which starts underneath The Wall. From here it's one-kilometre through the rough, single-track to Humpback Rd., Great Trail connector.

N.B. 230m diversion at Westwind (from Mapsend, Viewranger GPS track) 51 minutes duration / start at crossover overpass is 10km from home along PaloAlto/Mortimer/Mckenzie/Borden/GGT. Ends Jacklin Rd at Station Rd to Dunford Ave. N.B. Humpback Rd. is 28.4km from Home. (24.6 inbound to home from Humpback Rd trailhead) 9:17a.m. at Humpback gate. 1:47:00 outbound / 1:19:00 direct inbound Humpback/Irwin/Meridian/WestShore past Belmont school/ Hull's Trail/ Kelly to GGT/ Borden/McKenzie/ McClung Library/Mortimer/Palo Alto.

46km Biking to Langford

Upper Powerline Trail at Westshore Parkway Saturday morning I cycled 46km roundtrip from home to Humpback Road and back. I rode the Galloping Goose Trail outbound to Millstream connector then the (All-new section) E&N Rail Trail to Jacklin Rd. at Dunford where the paved trail ends. Once down Dunford Ave. and past Langford Lake, I took the usual, single-track route from the YMCA parking lot to Humpback Rd. The same route back got me home in three-hours total, trip time.
Of late my main interest in Langford — and specifically its trail network — is to find out what the citu of Langford's plans regarding the latest, cycling additions along Humpback Rd. and its connection to the Great Trail on Vancouver Island, aka, Sooke Wilderness Trail.
The new Montego Drive connector may be one option in the works. Presumably, this would be accessed from Burlington Crescent near Kettle Creek Station housing development. This connection would inlcude Burlington, Montego and Lakehurst between Humpback Rd. to the west.
Another option, — and one many support — is to develope the already-established Upper Power Line Trail between West Shore Parkway and Humpback Rd. It is well established and well used already.
To this end, may I suggest viewing a biking video through the one-kilometre (1km) section of active trail.
N.B. Trail users could be encoureage to use the single-track trail between the YMCA and the Upper Power Line Trail.
Disclaimer All-of-the-above becomes redundant once the E&N Rail Trail is completed to Humpback Road.

Cycled 48km Roundtrip to Langford

New Section E&N Rail Trail 48km Bike Ride single-track

Sunday morning I took a three hour, 48km bike ride out to Langford and back.

Cycled the Galloping Goose outbound and the E&N Rail Trail inbound.
The ride was one of my best ever. We (me and God), observed the new E&N Rail Trail construction between Savory School and Atkins Road.
What a great job they're doing over this one-kilometre (1km) section. Why, it even sports a concrete tunnel under the tracks!
The destination for this ride was the E&N railway above Montego Drive in Langford.
We cycled down the rough path from Kettle Creek Station and came out on Burlington Crescent after traversing the construction area.

TC Motors GGT/E&N E-bike Circle Loop

30km Ebike Ride Hereward Green Friday I cycled 30km roundtrip from home along the Galloping Goose Trail to TC Motors.
My route inbound (that means back home) was over Selkirk Trestle/ Banfield Park/ Pine St./ Hereward Park/ E&N Rail Trail to Helmcken Rd.
Down the ramp to the roundabout then into View Royal Park and onto Maclennan Trail at the 8km Marker of the Galloping Goose Trail.
Silly me lit out with a less-than-fully-charged battery and had to walk the last 2km to home. Some guys never learn.

Walked Selkirk

Wednesday we walked southward along the Galloping Goose Trail from Central Spur Rd.
We saw up-close-and-personal the United Engineering space once occupied by the stacker-reclaimer.
Later we went to Dallas Road near the breakwater to view the new sidewalk and bike path.
We were home by 11;30a.m. to hear Pierre Poilievre (poo-le-vray) expose redacted government documents regarding the WE scandal(yes folks, another Trudeau scandal).

Walked Selkirk from Central Spur Rd.

Flotsam or Jetsam Monday morning we walked the Galloping Goose Trail from Cenral Spur Road to Selkirk Landing on the north side of the Selkirk Trestle.
We set out at 10:30a.m. to beat the heat which is forecast to be 28°C. (82°F.) by afternoon.
Afterward we drove the Benz around Dallas Road waaterfront to Oak Bay Marina and walked a bit of Turkey Head pathway.
A film crew of unknown origins was set up with equipment and travel-trailers in the parking lot.
We didn't ask which movie it was but it did include a fake, police car with American, Martha's Vineyard markings on it.
And yes, we have pictures-to-prove-it.

They served up a delightful snack in their back garden

While Aliya and granny chatted, Kai and I went for a short walk along the Galloping Goose Trail, which is locate 150m from their house near the 40km Marker.

It was a sunny day and everyone was happy.

Cycled 18km Sooke Potholes to Leechtown 57km Gate

When Do We Eat? Monday morning C and I cycled 18km roundtrip from the upper parking lot at Sooke Potholes to the gate at the end of the Galloping Goose Trail.

The lad transported our rides on his SUV's bikerack

It was a great morning for riding and we went outbound and inbound in record time.

We like going to The Deep Pool at Kennedy Flat because after each season's flooding, it's always different.

This trip we walked Old Wolfe Creek riverbed to find a new set of pools.

C drove me back to my limo after its repairs. It died on me on the way home.

Walked Selkirk and CamMich Walked The E&N

This morning we walked the Galloping Goose Trail (GGT) beside the Gorge Waterway. Our kid's texted us and they are walking The E&N Rail Trail in Esquimalt — and they sent pictures-to-prove it.

Watched Planet of the Humans by Michael Moore et al, last night on YouTube. The 1¾hr production blows the cover off The Greens' hypocrisy regarding renewable energy as defined by them.

They will continue to tell The Lie but they will know we know that anthropogenic climate change is all lies. It always was a lie and will always remain a lie.
