Cycled 39km Roundtrip Nanaimo Parkway Trail

Cycled 39km Roundtrip in Nanaimo BC Cycling Nanaimo Parkway Trail 5-minutes

It took me over a decade but I finally made the ride 19.3km from McKeown Trailhead to Mary Ellen Dr. in Nanaimo along the Parkway Trail.

Besides my own tenacity, much of the thanks goes to my adult grandson who willingly cycled with his aging grandfather.
The younger, provided his vehicle and handled the driving and navigation along the trail.
Believe it — one needs a navigator with a keen eye to follow this paved trail.
The Nanaimo Parkway Trail intersects and crosses several road and highway intersection.
Many of these intersections are also intersected by other trail: i.e., E&N Rail Trail and Trans Canda Trail.
Confusing? You bet. But not to the keen eye of a skilled navigator!

Rode Del Sol 19km in the Hood

Sunday morning I rode 19km around the hood stating out at 7:15am
The traffic on the streets is pretty scarce at this time.
Firstly, I checked out the Saanich Family Affair but it was a one-day affair and was gone from the Lambrick site
Leaving there, it was ride up Mt. Douglas but that did not happen. I only got to the first trail crossing and ran out of power.
It's either me or teh bike that's running out of power — or a combination of the two.
Anyway, my ride wound down by cycling through the University grounds which is always nice when there's no students.

Cycled 15km on Del Sol to Blenkinsop Lake and back

Saturday morning I cycled a 15km loop to Blenkinsop Lake and back.
I stopped at St. Luke's cemetery outbound to assist in the volunteer's cleanup.
Inbound there was a fair setup in Lambrick Park by the Recreation Centre
One sign read: Saanich Family Affair but that's all the info available for now.
It was a most pleasant morning with some strong winds.
Overlord Industries has not yet dealt with the battery issues on the iZip bicycle.

Cycle 18.4km Roundtrip Ride

This morning I took a quick ride over to our accountant's office on Gorge Rd.E
“Quick” because I allowed 30 minutes for ride that took 32 minutes and left 8 minutes late. Do the math.
The ride was as cold as anticipated at 5°C.
Upon my return at 1p.m. I reported the broken door locks to Ding in the office.

Cycled Twice in Three Days

Long Gun Jack Irvine's family grave Tuesday morning I cycled a 17km loop from home outbound foe 8km at Lohbrunner Rd. E.
Last Sunday I cycled for the first time in over six weeks an 8km loop to St. Luke's church and back on a circuitous route. That be Garnet path to Shorncliffe Rd. S. and left through the pathway onto Oak Park Plc then up and over Synod Rd. to the kirk. Once there, I weed-whacked Jack Irvines grave site because the grass had grown quite high.
My cellphone appeared to not work due to the fact in the morning I took it off Auto-bright on the Display to better see it at 5a.m.
That worked fine but I forgot to reset it! That did not work fine. The screen appeared to be black and looked like the phone had croaked.
Good news — not croaked. So I retraced by bike path today and got the pic.

Cycled Upper parking to Deep Pool

Leechtown Deep Pool access I drove the Benz 45km to Upper Sooke Potholes Parking lot and cycled 16km roundtrip to the Deep Pool and return.
The old swimming hole is really getting overgrown as the forest tries to reclaim its own.

Colquitz/Amity Xing 61km Loop Ride

Amity Road Overpass Thursday I cycled 61km roundtrip out bound along the Interurban Rail Trail and inbound along the Lochide Trail.
From home, along the Galloping Goose Trail, I first explored the high ground in Cuthbert Holmes Park before getting lost in the labyrinth of its trails. Some locals directed me to the exit.
After cycling into Colquitz River park from Cuthbert, I followed it through Panama Flats to Copley West Park.
After exiting onto Munn Road from Copley East, I rode Munn west up to and through The Vancouver Island Industrial Complex to Glendale Gardens.
Once across Interurban, it was a short distance to Red Barn Market where the Wallace Drive 10km on-road section starts.
Wallace Dr. joins up with Amity Road where there's a highway overpass for cyclists and pedestrians.
From there it was approximately a 24km ride along the Lochside Trail and neighbourhood roads to our place.
It was a four-hour outing but I survived — barely.

TC Motors GGT/E&N E-bike Circle Loop

30km Ebike Ride Hereward Green Friday I cycled 30km roundtrip from home along the Galloping Goose Trail to TC Motors.
My route inbound (that means back home) was over Selkirk Trestle/ Banfield Park/ Pine St./ Hereward Park/ E&N Rail Trail to Helmcken Rd.
Down the ramp to the roundabout then into View Royal Park and onto Maclennan Trail at the 8km Marker of the Galloping Goose Trail.
Silly me lit out with a less-than-fully-charged battery and had to walk the last 2km to home. Some guys never learn.

Cycled 46km Home to Royal Bay

Hatley Castle in Royal Roads University Wednesday morning I cycled 46km roundtrip out to Royal Bay and back home.

I planned a route which took me from the Galloping Gose Trail at the 14km through Royal Roads to miss the heavy traffic along Metchosin Road in Colwood.

It seems every time I ride my bike in Royal Roads I get lost in the labyrinth of trails. This day was no exception.

Eventually I found my way to the path to the G8 Gate with direct access onto Painter Road at Metchosin Rd.

Once entering onto the Royal Bay pathway at the end of painter Road it's 3400m around the loop

The distance from home through Royal Roads to Royal Bay pathway at Painter Rd is 21km.

Cycling The Great Circle Route 33km

Stopped in at Vic General Hospital on the way by Cinco de Mayo

Tuesday morning I cycled 33km roundtrip from home and around the The Great circle route formed by the connecting of the Galloping Goose Trail with the E&N Rail Trail.

The described route itself is only a 19km loop but we live 7km from where we joined it at the Switch Bridge so do the math.

It was beautiful, sunny morning at a balmy 17°C. What a great, two-hour ride!

N.B. Oh yes, I stopped in at kids' home for a chat with Ben in the back garden. Amen.

Cycled 44km Home to Humpback Reservoir

NEW Irwin Road Connector Wednesday I cycled 44km (27miles) roundtrip from home to Humpback Reservoir and back.

The plan was to checkout any progress that may have been made on the completion of the Langford/Humpback Reservoir biking connector.

It seems quite a lot has happened since we last checked on the southern, trailhead to The Great Trail on Vancouver Island.

I left home at 10:30a.m. and arrived at the trailhead at noon. Coming home it only took 1¼hrs.

The chosen route was the Galloping Goose Trail to Kelly Road then through Langford via Belmont School to Meridian Avenue and the new trail beside Irwin Road.

The weather was beautiful at 15°C (60°F).

Cycled UVic, Haro, Cadboro Bay and back

Cadboro Bay Gyro Park Thursday morning I cycled a 10km loop down to Cadboro Bay Gyro Park and back home.

It was good to get out after not cycling for over three weeks — Wednesday, March 18 to be exact. But who's counting.

I know my way around the hood so although the ride wasn't long it was certainly interesting.

Cycling all the byways, nooks and crannies beats pulling our one's passport and wallet to find something better than what's right here.

Another great day biking in one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Cycled 26km Roundtrip Beacon Hill Park

Beacon Hill Thursday morning I washed the Benz in the underground at 9a.m. After my bike ride, I blackened the tires on the Benz and on the Honda at 2p.m.

At 11a.m., I cycled 26km roundtrip from home to the top of Beacon Hill in the eponymous park.

N.B. Around the time Fort Victoria was being built in the early 1840s, large fires were lit on the highest land near Victoria Harbour. This was to guide sailing ships at night plying the Strait of Juan de Fuca to a safe harbour — hence the name: Beacon Hill.

Bernice's Scotiabank T4A came by snailmail.

Riding The Wind to McKenzie Interchange

Sunday morning I cycled 21km roundtrip from home to the McKenzie Interchange along the Galloping Goose Trail. (GGT)

It was a blustery day with gusts to 70km/hr (40mph) which made cycling somewhat dangerous.

This was my first ride in such winds in over 13 years.

Other than the wind, it was a beautiful day: no rain and a balmy 7°C (45°F).

Not many riders out today but the I passed them all on my electric-assist bicycles.

Biking 18km Home to Ten Mile Point and Queenswood Loop

Telegraph Cove Tuesday morning I cycle 18km roundtrip from home to Ten Mile Point and around the Queenswood Loop.

After exiting UVic through Frank Hobbs School it was down to Gyro park again. Didn't spend any time in the park and took the concrete path out to Cadboro Bay Rd. and up the hill to Tudor Rd.

We stopped at the lookout at the end of White Rock Rd. and took some pix of the new home under construction.

Heading back home I rode down to Telegraph Cove and took pix then carried on the Queenswood Loop northbound. I came back up Hobbs Rd and crossed into the university grounds at the residences.

Another great day biking in one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Del Sol to Cadboro Bay and Queenswood Loop

Last leaves of Fall Sunday morning I cycled a short loop from home which included the first stop at Cadboro Bay Gyro Park.

My ride started by cycling up The Grind on the northern road up Mt. Tolmie. The main, northern road is named Mayfair Dr. but this route is Glastonbury Ave. which is pretty steep; hence, it's moniker -- The Grind (so named by me).

Once off the Mt. Tolmie trails, it was through the University to House #4 and down the single-track to Hobbs Rd.

Upon leaving Gyro Park, we took Cadboro Bay Rd. east to Queenswood Dr. (clockwise, which brought us back to Telegraph Bay Rd. connection).

Northbound, we rode past Frank Hobbs School and back into the university grounds and followed our regular rout to home.

The weather was cool and overcast but great for outdoor activities. The handwarmers kept my hands warm but not my fingers. Guess I'll use the warmers with mitts -- that should work better. At noonday we joined SharBen for her birthday lunch at Apple Tree. The friendly staff had our boot hreserved and Florence was our waiter. A good time was had by all.

Bernice and I then drove to Humpback Reservoir and checked out the ongoing construction at the northern end of the Westhills Development Project.

Before coming home, we walked the university grounds (from Sinclair Rd.) to enjoy the fall colours of the trees in the residences' section.
