Finding E&N Malahat Level Xing

The purpose being to find a level access to the E&N Railway near this location.
After driving through Cedar Springs Ranch campground I ended up at Malahat Mountain Meadows Campground.
The campers here told me how to get to the tracks using the nearby trail.
This access had too much gain for my purposes so after walking the tracks southbound for ten minutes a level xing appeared.
This level xing connects from Cedar Spring Ranch campground (the place I just drove through).
We remember this campground from the 60s and is where our kids learned to swim in the outdoor pool.

Oliphant Lake Debacle
Cameron, We hope everything went well with your appopintment. You didn't miss anything on the bike ride because I had so much cargo I couldn't move it all up the hills. Did I say there was lots of hills? Yes I did.
Anyway, after cycling in the DH for one kilometre I decided to try the hills before becoming completely enervated. Good job I did because I barely made it back up the hills and out. I don't give up that easy and will try it from the Malahat road entrance next week.

Here's a video from last year when I cycled in to Oliphant Lake. Oliphant Lake Drone Flight and Biking Oliphant Lake is not a "natural" lake, it was created in the 1930's as a water source for the Bamberton cement works

Friday morning I put the DJI Mini 2 up and over the Malahat Skywalk. The drone was 245m (1800ft.) out from my location beside Hwy-1.
It seems I've sweated this flight for some weeks now but finally pulled it off.
Once the Mini 2 was 245m (1800ft.) out over the Skywalk I wanted to lower it closer but the Lost Connection warning came up on the controller screen so I simply used the zoom feature on the new drone.
What an advancement that is in Aerial Vehicle technology.
Anyway, I'm very grateful t ohave this high-tech equipment to fool around with and hopefully share it online with those not so fortunate.
On this trip I left home at 10:30a.m. and was back by noon. Amen.

Drove Benz Malahat U-turn
After driving up to the Malahat on Vancouver Island to put my DJI Mini 2 drone up and over the Malahat Skywalk it didn't happen. The fog was on-the-deck (pilot speak for down-to-ground-level).
After waiting an hour in the Malahat Chalet Restaurant I decided the fog wasn't going to lift.
Before heading back to the ranch, I continued on to the U-Turn location beyond the summit and put the Mini2 up just because I could.
We have a plan to try again next week.

Biking Drone to Oliphant Lake
Sunday morning I cycled 9.5km roundtrip from Aikman Road parking and trainlhead to Oliphant Lake dock and viewing platform.
Somewhere along the way I managed to put my drone up ona beautiful day.
What aspectacular day to be outdoors!
The ride on my ebike pulling the drone onmy Burley Bike Trailer was enervating but I made it.
There's lots of hills both up and down but overall it equals out. the lake is at 1388ft. and the trailhead is 1422ft.
The drone acted up upon liftoff but settled down after a while.
I got good video footage from the drone and GoPro and posted my 428th video to Youtube.

Search For Oliphant Lake Trail

Austensibly, it's a short 3km hike to Oliphant Lake from here. Today's 700m walk was just a reconnaissance to compare what I see with what's shown on some maps.
A nice view over Finlayson Arm to American Gulf Island.

Cycled with Amos 5800m over Private Truck Road

This distance belies the fact this not an easy ride on a bicycle.
I know how deceptive this is because insteaad if taking my electric-assist bike (only 5800m?), I took my Norco pedal bike. Big mistake.
The ride ends at the Shawnigan Lake/Mill Bay Rd., due to the fact local land-owners have claimed it for their own. A fairly (or unfairly) common practice on Vancouver Island.
Amos is a good trail-buddy and good company. Big, strong, handsome and reliable. What more can one ask for?
Unfortunately, my GoPro did not record the journey as the SD card was corrupted from too many recording cycles. After formatting and testing it's working again.
