Ross Bay Webcam

Ross Bay Quadtych photos Tuesday after driving to our doctor's office and making an appointment for my wife I drove to Ross Bay Beach.
Harry Weiler has his webcam linked to Big Wave Dave's Webcam site.
My objective was to find the location of Weiler's webcam but this did not happen.
Using some triangulation and matriculation those smarter than me can find the webcam from these images.

Meeting at Tim Hortons

Meeting of Minds Bentley and I met at Tim Hortons and he recieve out handoff of the Alskag brooch etc.. It turned out Clive was there s joined us with his friend Rod. Both are avid cyclistsnow, among other things.

Clive owned a Beechcraft V-tail Bonanza V-35a/i back in the 80s. After I left to be with my invalid wife at home, Bentley sent this update after Terry joined them.

Walked Haultain/Adanac Connector with DJI Camara

Hospital Footpath from Haultain Rd.
Tuesday morning I walked the 100metres (110yards) from Haultain Rd. thru to Jubilee Hospital at Adanac St.
It's a shortcut used mainly by hospital staff but I've used it a few time on foot and by bike.
It's single-track dirt trail when it's dry and mud when it's wet.
My usual gimbal mounted video camera (Yuneec CGO3 SteadyGrip) was not serviceable so I used my backup gimbal camera — DJImini 2 drone video camera.
It remains perfectly steady when mounted on the drone and airborne but only does an acceptable job when handheld (by me). It is what it is.
BTW The whole purpose of a gimbal mount is to eliminate any movement caused by any motion of the camera body.

Albert Head Lagoon Park Steady Grip

Albert Head Lagoon Regional Park sign Albert Head Lagoon Park VIDEO Sunday I walked around Albert Head Lagoon Park with my CGO3 4k video camera mounted on the Yuneec Handheld ®Steady Grip attachment.
®Steady Grip is a patented accessory for the Yuneec Q500+ Typhoon quadcopter. The three-way, gimbal mounted camera is coupled to one's smartphone via its own Wi-Fi connection which permits for the operator to frame video and still images and control the camera from the phone's touch screen. The images and video are stored in the HDSD card mounted inside the camera just as it would if mounted on the quad.

Cycle to Rocky Point Road

GoPro Frame GrabWednesday I cycled past the 25km marker on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail (GGT) and back. This is where the GGT crosses Rocky Point Road in Metchosin. This was a training run for our Log Train Trail ride in Port Alberni on Sunday. We're keeping our fingers crossed for low water level when we ford Hal Creek.

Thursday, July 7, 2011, I took a short, brisk walk up Mt. Tolmie and back. This was my second up the mountain this week after climbing it on Tuesday.
Afterward, we walked Portage Park in View Royal and have a one-minute video-to-prove-it. Enjoy.

VIDEO NARRATIVE:
Visitors to View Royal's Portage Park
today see no clues to its past
The Calvert's home on 4-mile hill remind us when they owned this property to the sea at Thetis Cove
Richards Island and Dyke Point to the west, were here when these lands and beaches rang with laughter when the John D. Kissinger family had use of the large cabin from the 1930s thru to the seventies.
John Daniel Kissinger was manager of Canadian Pugent Sound Lumber & Timber Company's (CPS) mill in victoria from 1920-30
John D. then operated Island Logging Company Limited west of Cowichan Lake and Kissinger Lake is named after him.
It's encouraging to all who enjoyed spending summers at Kissinger's Camp to see how the site is preserved for future generations as Portage Park.

Viewing of the GoPro Norco XFR rideTuesday, July 5, 2011, I cycled 32km from Lake Cowichan (The Foot) to Duncan, BC. Bernice and her friend, Betty, drove me and my ride to the Foot and then they returned to Duncan to shop-the-day-away. Summer has hit the valley (that be: Cowichan Valley) with a vengeance so the weather was severe clear with balmy temperatures around 25*C.

After departing the Foot at 11:00 a.m., I arrived in downtown Duncan three hours later. It took 90-minutes to cover the first 17km to Paldi on the all-new, Cowichan Valley Trail. Again, the shade of the gazebo beside the Paldi Sikh Temple invited me to sit there and reflect upon the life of one Rajindi Mayo while enjoying my soon-to-be-world-famous, egg-salad sandwich.

Upon crossing Sherman Rd at the end of the trail, the main objective became where to find the trailhead for the soon-to-be-completed, Duncan-commons Trail. This trail -- which is completed in sections -- primarily follows the E&N Railway tracks to join the City of Duncan with one of Vancouver Island's largest shopping complexes: Duncan Commons Mall.

Cycling eastward on Lane Road brought me to Averil Park. This park is adjacent to The Commons and is roughly at the site of the former, Hayward Junction.

Hayward Junction was the eastern terminus of the railline just cycled: the 18.4-mile, E&N Cowichan subdivision. Hayward Junction derived its name it part as it was the junction of the E&N Mainline (Esquimalt to Nanaimo) and the newly built line to Lake Cowichan in 1925.

The locals did not seem to know as much about the new Duncan Commons Trail as I did. Most of half-dozen persons queried had never heard of it. Go figure. After cycling the E&N mainline toward Duncan for a while (we are familiar with this section of rail as we've walked it in the past), I happened upon a survey crew who were (guess what?) surveying for the new trail! They knew exactly where and how I could pickup the new trail heading into Duncan.

My wife and I both have cellular phones so she knew her shopping trip was over and the cycling journey had been completed successfully. What a great ride! What a great trail!

Roche Cove by BerniceToday I cycled 28km on the Galloping Goose Trail (GGT). After transporting my ride to Roche Cove parking at the 35km marker on the trail, I cycled uphill to the 49km marker at the Sooke Potholes Campground. What a great ride! This trail section has four trestles to cross and ocean views beside the Sooke Basin.

The weather was perfect. Just another day in paradise.

35km-49km Cycling Video

The Galloping Goose Trail (GGT) starts in the City of Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It currently ends 57km northwest because of the gated area protecting Victoria's water supply. The mostly-gravel trail follows the right-of-way of the Canadian National Railway (CNR) and were it not for the watershed gate, one could follow it all the way to Lake Cowichan, BC, at a total distance of some 118km (73 Miles).

This video may seem a bit long at six-minutes but it covers a 90-minute section of the trail and attempts to show some points-of-interests as it records the the trail, distance-markers from the 35km Marker to the 49km Marker. There are copious amounts of online sites with a plethora of information regarding this world-famous, multi-use, non-motorized trail. Enjoy.

Today we walked 2km through Mary Lake property for the second time. These private lands are held by the descendants of the original owner, Brotherston, who made many improvements to access the lake. The surrounding 107 acres is for the most part, untouched. A few abandoned roadways make walking the area easy and safe. Surrounded for years by No Trespassing signs, the lake was owned by Peter Brotherston until his death 13 years ago, then by his widow Violet. After her death in 2008, it became part of her estate and is zoned for residential development.

Bob McMinn, one's guide for this tour, is no ordinary octogenarian. The longtime District of Highlands resident and its former mayor is using Twitter and other platforms such as Facebook to head a unique campaign to preserve Mary Lake as parkland. Bob is part of the Save Mary Lake Conservancy.

Mary Lake GPS Coordinates
Entrance 1772 Millstream Rd: N48°29.844', W123°30.790'
Closest to Millstream Road: N48°30.178', W123°30.937'

After this walk we danced the afternoon away to the sounds of one of our favourite bands at the legion. We dined in Naden on a wonderful prime-dinner. Life is good.

Today we walked 4.4km around Cedar Hill Golf Course chip trail in the bright sunshine. What a wonderful day!

We walked another klik around Henderson after lunch at Naden.

We dropped in to wish Emma a happy birthday which she seemed to be having in part due to the largess of her parents. Goodonya, Emma.

N.B. Today's image is my first in 16:9 widescreen format. Maybe it's time to move into the 21st century of photography.
