Bravehearts to Windsor Cafe in Oak Bay 8/29/26  

Saturday saw nine Bravehearts departed the Switch Bridge at10am for Windsor Park in Oak Bay

We took the Lochside Trail to Borden at McKenzie then headed south then east to McKenzie Ave. overpass.

Once through Bow Park it was Malton to Mt. Douglas X Rd to cross Shelbourne

---

Then westward to University of Victoria grounds then south past Rattenbury trailhead by Mt. Tolmie

---

Afterward to cross Cadboro Bay Rd it was through Estevan Village to Beach Drive

As seen on Thursday walk from Estevan Village to Willows Beach

Oak Bay, B.C. – Crews from Don Mann Excavating have constructed an outfall at Willows Beach at the end of Estevan Avenue. This work is part of the District of Oak Bay’s Estevan Utilities Project, which includes the replacement of storm and water mains along Estevan Avenue from Willows.

While in the hood, I tried the fish from Willows Galley Fish & Chips in Estevan Village. Very good cod at a reasonable $9.95 price. Finest-at-Sea on Erie Street charges $16.95 for one piece of cod.

 Bravehearts Saturday May 2nd ride was once again under the leadership of Ken

Ken led the 12 riders from the Switch Bridge (SB) to Oak Bay Marina Dockside Bakery (aka Coffee Shop).

---

The weather was fantastic; our first 2026 ride without winter accoutrements. (accouterments is US spelling)

---

Bill's daughter and son'n'law walked over to meet Ken and get informed of everyone's CV from dad.

---

Sharon & Bentley down-sized from house-to-condo some years back a live 200m from the Marina.

---

After great conversation and hilarious jokes (Rick?), we each departed our chosen routes to home.

---

The Three Amigos trio was disrupted by Grant's need to get home to his injured wife. (who, BTW is recovering well)

---

So Bruce and Bill took Victoria's Seaside Touring Route which is a 39km loop showcasing the city's south-facing shoreline through James Bay, Fairfield and Oak Bay.

---

Coincidentally, 39.5km was the distance recorded for Bill's total length-of- ride from his home and back. The distance of ride from the SB was recorded as 31.2km

---

The difference in recorded lengths is due to the fact Bill rides from home and heads firstly to his wife's residents at The Heights at Mountview (HMV) longtem carehome. HMV is some 400m from the SB.

Sunday morning I cycled the 31km loop along the Victoria Seaside Cycling Route.

Starting out from home, it was up and through Uplands and past Willows Beach to Ross Bay.

---

After completing the Dallas Road Cycling Paths it was past the Parliament Buildings and across the Johnson Street Bridge.

---

Once on the Galloping Goose Trail and across Selkirk Trestle it was up to the Switch Bridge and the Lochside Trail connector to McKenzie Avenue.

---

There were hearty individuals swimming in the icy waters at Ross Bay which was a unique sight for me.

---

Cattle Point has an iconic monument I've not seen before. It's a large stone sculpture honouring Staqeya, the lone wolf of Discovery Island.

7:30am Suuday morning me and my DelSol hit out over the mountain — up The Grind.

I really had to peddle that sucker in 1st gear to do the hills. Maybe it's wearin out like me.

---

After circling the reservoir it was down thru the school along Henderson to Lansdowne Rd and into the Uplands.

---

Then, Cattle Point and down to Willows Beach using Death Drop Hill (but this time walked the bike down)

---

Cycling back thru the Uplands got us to Cadboro Bay and from there it was up Penrhyn St. to UVic Alumni Trails.

---

Once around finnerty Gardens, it was down Broadmead hill and thru Horner Park to home. Total distance as 16km.

Wednesday morning I walked our counterclockwise, 3800m loop up The Grind (Glastonury Rd. hill) and over Mt. Tolmie to exit across the border with the adjacent municipality of Oak Bay using the Rattenbury Pl. pathway.

This stone staircase is the southeast trail connector to the summit of Mt. Tolmie.

Sunday morning I cycled over to view the annual Oak Bay Collector Car Festival held each year along its main street.

After biking through the Uplands and along Beach Drive to the car show I decided to continue along the Waterfront Bike Route to Beacon Hill Park and then downtown via the Vancouver Street Connector.

---

From downtown to home its the old, reliable Galloping Goose Trail making for a 31km loop back home.

---

The Car Festival had hundreds of automobile entries and hundreds more spectators came to view them. A very successful event.

---

The weather was beautiful and the high temperature for thsi day was a balmy 22°C.

---

I recorded my brief walk-through the car show on GoPro but am undecided as to whether or not to produce a marketable production. My next video posted to YouTube will be #494.

Saturday I cycled a 14km loop from home over Mt. Tolmie to Willows Beach. Shut down for the past two years due to restrictive mandates implemented by British Columbia's Chief Health Officer 2022 sees it back in full swing and well attended. No masks nor passports required.

Sunday I walked a 3400m loop up The Grind and over Mt. Tolmie to Kendal Ave. and rerurned via Rattenbury Pl. and trails to Glastonbury and home.

Tuesday we walked Tyee Rd. to Selkirk Trestle along the Galloping Goose Trail.

We then drove the Honda to Highland Pacific for lunch of fish&chips for him and Ruben sandwich for her.

On the way out-of-town we stopped by Rudyard to see if B wanted to join us for lunch but he had appointments.

---

After lunch it was back to Oak Bay and a walk around Turkey Head Walkway.

---

We saw a photo-shoot taking place on the beach with some lightly-clad women — presumably, aspiring models

---

We took the long way home with a drive through downtown along Governemnt St. Bad idea. Bailed at Fort St. for home.

Monday morning we walked the Galloping Goose Trail from Cenral Spur Road to Selkirk Landing on the north side of the Selkirk Trestle.

We set out at 10:30a.m. to beat the heat which is forecast to be 28°C. (82°F.) by afternoon.

---

Afterward we drove the Benz around Dallas Road waaterfront to Oak Bay Marina and walked a bit of Turkey Head pathway.

---

A film crew of unknown origins was set up with equipment and travel-trailers in the parking lot.

---

We didn't ask which movie it was but it did include a fake, police car with American, Martha's Vineyard markings on it.

---

We walked Selkirk  from Tyee to the trestle

Fantastico wouldn't let us sit at a table to have coffee and muffin so we went to Windsor Cafe in Oak Bay.

Their tables were full so we sat across the road in the park. Very good coffee and Morning Glory muffin.

The weather is getting so warm now we didn't have the heat on today.

In fact, I setup the fan in the livingroom.

Friday we walked Selkirk Waters along the Galloping Goose Trail.

Friday we picked up fish & chips with all the fixings from Willows Galley in Esplanade Village and had a picnic lunch at Willows Beach.

It was warm so we had the air-conditioner on in the Benz.

We bought a few things at Wally World for $115

Shopped M&M for some simple suppers
